As Chinese President Hu Jintao set foot on Indian soil for the first time amidst heavy security arrangements, four Tibetan activists of Tibetan Youth Congress successfully breached the heavy security cauldron, storming and disrupting Hu Jintao’s motorcade at the Airport road near Delhi Cantonment and Daula Kuan Area. Of the seven activists involved in the demonstration four were arrested and later detained in Delhi Cantonment Police Station.

At around 7 pm local time, the activists, after spending several hours in their hideouts barged at Hu’s motorcade as it headed towards the Chinese Embassy from the airport. Raising Free Tibet slogans and condemning his visit, the activists waved the Tibetan National flag and successfully disrupted the convoy.

The young activists who were mostly college students braved the consequences of their act and gave Mr. Hu a flavour of the huge anti-Hu campaign being launched by the Tibetans all-over India. The present protest had been the first direct protest action against Mr Hu by the Tibetans, blemishing further his “high on hype, low on substance” visit to India.

Mr. Hu Jintao, the present visiting “gentlemen” from China, when head of the Tibetan Autonomous Region in 1989, imposed martial law in Tibet and ordered violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators, killing thousands of innocent Tibetans. Mr Hu is believed to have acquired the present post in China as a reward for the killings he had spearheaded in Tibet.

Tibetans all over India strongly condemn the four-day official visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India and warn the Indian government against the vicious Chinese maneuvers. Despite expectations of an improvement in the Sino-Indo relation through Mr. Hu’s visit, the sad reality is that the previous visits by various Chinese leaders have failed to address the major concerns raised by India.

The claims laid by the Chinese ambassador to India over ‘whole of Arunachal Pradesh’ just before Hu’s visit clearly shows China’s lack of political will and genuine intention in resolving the vexed border issue. And most importantly, any agreements between India and China at the cost of the interest of the 6 million Tibetans can never be accepted by the Tibetans and will clearly lack the legitimacy for a lasting solution.

Tibetan Youth Congress, while strongly condemning the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India, firmly believes that Government of India, while dealing with Chinese delegates, will not take any measure that may go against the historical truth and the aspiration of the six million Tibetans living in and out of Tibet.
