Karma: a journey to consciousness in Toronto

Visual excellence, beautiful topic and a great quality movie, a landmark in Tibetan language movie, so does all exclaimed at the end of the queue when cinegoers left the movie hall in downtown Toronto. There was no doubt people enjoyed watching the movie as much as the organizers enjoyed working to provide quality Tibetan movies to the Tibetan residents in Toronto.

Mussoorie Alumni Association of Nepal with the support of Exmussoorie Toronto, and Canada Tibetan Association of Ontario brought the special screening of Director Tsering Rhitar’s latest movie Karma to Toronto.

Introducing the movie and project presentation at the beginning of the movie, Exmussoorie Nepal executive Tenzing Wangdu explained the need to do what one is capable of supporting and stand up for a Tibetan project.

It was also a special charity screening for Exmussoorie project called “Home away Home” with support of CTAO. The project strives to give a home and a holiday to refugee childrens who have never seen a world beyond their residential schools. Commenting on the project, local residents supported the project wholeheartedly and said such initiatives are much needed to shoulder our responsibilities in the society.

Karma was shot in the remote region of Mustang in the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal and follows the journey of a nun. In a nunnery in the high desert mountains, a revered abbess dies, leaving signs that she will be reborn in the precious human form. Prayers and ritual must be done to help her consciousness into its next rebirth, but the nunnery coffers are empty. The senior nuns decide that the only way out is to get back the money loaned out by the nunnery. A nun by the name of Karma decides to take this journey into the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The journey becomes a soul searching adventure as the duo starts hearing the infamy of their destination.
