Bangalore, December 26, 2005: “Young Tibetan Women Leadership Training” organized by Tibetan Women’s Association began today with a grandeur opening ceremony. Chief Guest Kasur Jetsun Pema la graced the occasion by lighting the lamp at 9.am. This was followed by a welcome and introductory speech by TWA president Mrs. B.Tsering who explained that the exclusive girls’ participation was intentional to provide a perfect platform/stage for the participants to shed their inhibitions and vulnerability factor and excel in the field.
The chief Guest gave a moving, genuine and a spontaneous speech stressing on ‘good leadership’. Kasur Jetsun Pema la said that mere qualification is not adequate for effective leadership which calls for commitment and dedication. Tibetan college students constitute 17% of the Tibetan population in exile and they become the ‘cream’ of our society with unbound responsibilities resting on their shoulders. But the latest trend encroaching on their lives is flying to the ‘west-obsession’, which needs to be checked. The need of the hour calls for students to divulge into professional and specialized courses and Tibetan students are expected to follow suit and harvest and invest their resources in the Tibetan Society.
The Chief Guest appreciated the perennial efforts of TWA who performs a pivotal role in empowerment of Tibetan women and hence it is imperative that every Tibetan Woman must comply with its membership.
The 1st day of the training will see a brainstorming session by Vijay Kranti with complete analysis of Media and Communications in the Tibetan context with special emphasis on ‘How to be an effective communicator’ and ‘Your tools of communication as a Tibetan communicator’. The other important topics to be covered are Gender and Leadership, Gender Stereotypes and Socializing process, Influence of Power in Decision making, Qualities of a good leader, Women and Men leaders, Effective communication for a good Leader by Ms. Kavita Ramesharan. UN and Tibet, concepts of Autonomy by Youdon Aukatsang and Women and Development by Ms. Geetha.
Around forty enthusiastic participants {girls from different colleges in India} pledged to be committed to the wonderful learning opportunity for five days from 26th to 30th December 2005. Since the inception of TWA in 1984, one of its core objectives has been the empowerment of Tibetan women. This leadership training falls within the paradigm of our empowerment schemes.
