Tenzin Woeser honored with the “Appreciation award”

New York – The Society of Ex Namgyal Students in the United States honored Tenzin Woeser of the Tsam Tsam fame with an “Appreciation Award” at a modest function in New York.

The award honors the Tibetan singer and a former student of Namgyal School, Kathmandu, for his contribution to Tibetan music. The society’s secretary Lodoe Sangpo says that the award is a recognition of Woeser’s role in preserving and promoting the unique Tibetan culture.

The award was presented by Mr. Kelsang Yonten, the president of The Society of Ex-Namgyal Students (U.SA.). “I am extremely honored and thankful to the society”, said Tenzin Woeser in his acceptance speech. On asked about the source of his inspiration, he credits “the students and the teachers of Namgyal school” who inspired him to sing his first song when he was student in grade VIII.

However, Woeser expressed his disappointment with the fact that there is a lack of support and encouragement for the young and aspiring Tibetan singers in the Tibetan community itself”.

The Society of Ex-Namgyal Students (U.S.A) is a non-profit association founded primarily to provide educational, cultural and financial support and co-operation for students in Namgyal Schools in Nepal.
