Dharamshala 12 June –More than a hundred government service aspirants gathered here yesterday at the Mentseekhang hall, the venue for the Public Service Commission’s exams for the post of under secretary. There are many young college graduates as well as government officials appearing for the exams. For the convenience of the candidates living in south Indian settlements, the commission has arranged an exam centre in south India.

“My chances are meagre as I see many government officials competing with us. They have experience of working in the government and we just graduated”, said Lhundup, a BA graduate from Delhi university.

The Public Service Commission had announced more than twenty vacancies for the post of under secretary, section head and office superintentent etc.

Unlike India’s Union Public Service Commission, the exams for Tibetan government jobs are held as and when there are vacancies. And this, many candidates believe, is the reason for a bulk of college graduates not getting jobs in the government. “I understand our government’s strict financial constraints and its inability to absorb the growing number of Tibetan graduates but we don’t get jobs of our preference outside our community for the obvious reason that we are not Indian citizens”, says another candidate from Chandigarh on condition of anonymity.
