Dharamshala, June 10 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama may travel to South Korea in August to receive Manhai peace award from the Manhai Foundation, South Korea. This was told by Mr. Chope Paljor Tsering, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s representative in Japan, to the Voice of Tibet radio service based here. Chope Paljor Tsering told the VOT that there has been pressure from China right from the time when the foundation decided to honour the Tibetan leader with the award.
“It is hoped, if everything goes well, that His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit South Korea during his visit to Russian regions of Kalmykia, Buryatia and Tuva in August. The actual date for the conferment of the award falls on 14 August but His Holiness would be in Switzerland at that time so the foundation has requested His Holiness to visit South Korea in the end of August”, Mr. Chope said.
However, Mr. Chope said that he is not in a position to say with certainty at the moment but that he is hopeful of the visit to South Korea. He said that His Holiness’s visit is purely religious and has no political undertones attached to it. “His Holiness has visited Japan ten times and there was always condemnation from China. It can be said that His Holiness’ visit to any country has not harmed that country’s bilateral relations with China”.
His Holiness always respects the bilateral relations of his host countries and China, and refrains from causing any problems in the relations.
