Delhi, June 10 – In what turned out to be an embarrassing moment in the history of the football tournament dedicated to the late mother of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Darjeeling Snow Lion football club has withdrawn from the tournament owing to football hooliganism. Darjeeling fans say that their club would have decided to play the semi finals had the organisers given them assurances of their security and protection.
However, the organisers say that they had urged the Darjeeling players to stay back offering them all possible security and protection. But it was not enough to win over the apprehension of the Darjeeling team who stuck to their decision to walk over.
Bir/Chauntra team has entered into the final of the tournament with the walkover they got from Darjeeling. Today, Clement town will face TCV United in the other semi final of the tournament and the winner will play against Bir/Chauntra United.
The organisers have met with the leaders of the two settlements of Bir and Chauntra this morning. The organisers have been assured of the cooperation from the leaders of the two settlements who agreed to urge their people to refrain from causing any disturbance to the tournament which has only two matches left to be played.
