Today’s GCM Matches Cancelled

Delhi, June 9 – In a latest development in this year’s Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup football tournament, today’s two matches have been cancelled. Bir/Chauntra United were to face Darjeeling’s Snow Lion, and Clement Town were to play against TCV United. Bir/Chauntra United had won their two matches against Delhi’s Cholsum United and Southern Sports.

Sources say that Darjeeling players have received threats from the fans of Bir/Chauntra United which caused the intimidation of the Darjeeling players. However, there has been no visible attack or threats from the players of Bir/Chauntra United on or off the field.

A meeting was held between the officials of the Tibetan Sports Association and the Darjeeling manager and players who expressed their reluctance to play today’s match which they think is too risky. The meeting decided that Darjeeling team were to submit in writing their decision if they chose to walkout of the tournament.

Sources say that Darjeeling team had already left the players’ hostel and reached lower Dharamshala but were called back As of now, it is hoped that the two semi finals will be played tomorrow which is a rest day in the programme schedule of the tournament but there is no certainty.
