Dharamshala, June 9 – The Kashag said that yesterday’s long life offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been very successful in that His Holiness has accepted the offering and positively replied to the mandala citation recited by the offering convener His Eminence Sakya Trizin. The Kashag also called the offering ceremony a successful beginning of the year-long celebration of His Holiness’ 70th birthday.

The Kalon Tripa who was speaking at a press conference held here also requested the Tibetans, in and outside Tibet to pray for the longlife of His Holiness and take part in the national expression of gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama who the Kalon Tripa referred to as the heart of the Tibetan people’s present and future. The Kalon Tripa was accompanied at the press conference by Kalon Lobsang Nyima, Kalon Thupten Lungrik and Kalon Lobsang Nyandak.

The Kalon Tripa urged the Tibetans to bring into practice the words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and enhance their merits through virtuous behaviour as the collective merit of the Tibetan people will positively back the endeavours of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The Kashag also issued a press release wherein the transcription of His Holiness’ address of yesterday was given. His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday thanked the gods and deities of Tibet, the Tibetan people, and their government for offering the longlife prayer ceremony. “Your true faith, prayers and devotion will surely bear some fruit”, said His Holiness after yesterday’s ceremony which was attended by heads of the various traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon.

His Holiness also said that he has lived the longest after the first Dalai Lama Gendun Drupa. His Holiness, however, said that living and dying is beyond his control but that he prays for his long life thinking that his demise at such a period Tibet’s history will be improper.

Appreciating the mutual harmony among the various traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon, His Holiness said that religious heads should also live long and work for the welfare of all the sentient beings.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama also thanked the group of people who had come from Mongolia to participate in the offering ceremony.
