Kalon Tripa Demonstrates Soil Preparation

Dharamshala, May 11 – The five-day conference of the representatives and welfare officers will conclude today. The representatives and the welfare officers were given extensive lessons on organic farming.

They were also given a live demonstration of preparation of organic manure Nadeep compost by the Kalon Tripa himself. Around 41 representatives and welfare officers watched the making of Nadeep compost as the Kalon Tripa, who is also the Kalon for home, explained each step of the preparation of the soil.

The representatives are expected to teach the technique to the Tibetan farmers in the Tibetan settlements.

Talking to TibetNet, Joint Secretary Ngodup Dorjee of the departments agriculture division said that the formation of Nadeep compost may take 3 to 4 months depending on the weather condition. He said that this soil is considered to be the best among its types. The representatives and the welfare officers were given a book in Tibetan language on the preparation of the soil.

He said that the department will organise the 6th meeting of representatives from 12 major agricultural settlements this June in Ladakh.
