Mysore, May 10 – The Bhagat Singh Yuva Sena Samithi today staged a demonstration asking the Tibetans to ‘Quit India’.
The protest march commenced from Kote Anjaneya temple of the Palace this morning.
“The Tibetans, who came as refugees during Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru’s regime, are now more than a lakh in number, dwelling in Bylakuppe, Kollegal, Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks. If they are allowed to have their way, they would seek Indian citizenship and voting rights in our country,” said Samithi President N. Lakshmikant.
“Several Tibetans have purchased land around their settlements under benami records,” he alleged and added that localites are now forced to work in their land-holdings as labourers, while the refugees lead luxurious lives.
Citing the example of a Tibetan youth raising anti-Chinese slogans during the Chinese premier’s visit to India, Lakshmikant pointed out that such incidents would affect Sino-Indian relations.
The Samithi members further alleged that the Tibetans were marrying Indian girls to obtain Indian citizenship and accused them of indulging in anti-social activities like smuggling, murder and rape.
“A day will come when they will demand political representation, thus affecting nation’s security,” he said and added that memoranda seeking the Tibetans’ ouster would be submitted to the President of India, Prime Minister and Governor.
Placards with anti-Tibetan slogans were held during the march to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a memorandum was submitted.
The protestors tore off a poster of Dalai Lama at the K.R. Circle.
General Secretary Jogi Manju and others were present.
