Washignton DC. January 3, 05 – In recognition of the unprecendented tragedy stuck by the massive earthquake in the Indian Ocean and the ensuing Tsunami disaster which tool over 150,000 lives in coastal asian nations, the Capital Area Tibetan Assocation cancelled its New Year Eve Party, and instead turned the event into a 2-hour special prayer session and dinner-fundraiser for the victims in India. The event, held at a private house, raised over $1500 dollars which will be handed over to the Indian Embassy.
“We owe so much to the government and people of India, and this is the least we can do to share our sence of agony and show solidarity with the victims”, said an official of the association who declined to be named.
Meanwhile, the Office of Tibet, and the newly formed Executive Committee of the North American Tibetan Associations has sent out an appeal to raise relief fund for the victims of Tamil Nadu.
