Dharamsala, September 7 – When Mokambo was planning to destroy the whole of India, he created Mr. India to save his country. He, in his film’Bandit Queen’, based on the true story of Phoolan Devi, shows the filmgoers how an innocent little girl from a village in the notorious Chambal valley becomes a dacoit herself to avenge the torture inflicted upon her by dacoits. This film won him several laurels internationally. Then came ‘Elizabeth’, a film on the British queen mother, which made him an internationally renowned filmmaker.

Actor director Shekhar Kapur is on a visit to Dharamsala, the exile headquarters of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

He called on His Holiness the Dalai Lama this morning. He also met Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration. Accompanying Kapur is Mr. B.K. Modi, Chairman of the Modi group.

Kapur is said to be planning a movie on Tibetan Trulkus (incarnate beings) and sources say that he has come to see his locale for the film but he outrightly denies his visit having to do anything with the film. “I am still in the process of modernising the script”, he told reporters.
