Kathmandu, March 24 – An eight-member Nepali team left for Beijing today to participate in the first session of the third Nepal-China Joint Border Inspection meeting to be held in the Chinese capital from March 25 to 26.
The team is led by Hira Bahadur Thapa, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The other members of the team are from the ministries of Home, Defence, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Royal Nepalese Embassy in Beijing, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Chinese delegation is being led by the Director General, Law and Treaty Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The two teams will dwell on aspects relating to the Nepal-China border, particularly the establishment and maintenance of 95 boundary pillars along the Nepal-China border, the formation of joint border inspection teams and the duration and procedures to be adopted for such inspection.
Nepal-China Boundary Treaty states the two countries are to carry out joint inspection of the border at mutually agreed intervals.
A total of 15 Nepalese districts fall in the Nepal-China border. The last Nepal-China Joint Border Inspection meeting was held in 1988.
