MP Tom Brake has called upon Prime Minister Tony Blair to meet with the exiled leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama.
Responding to reports the Dalai Lama has been unable to secure an audience with Mr Blair on his forthcoming visit to Britain, the Liberal Democrat international development spokesman has now tabled a cross-party parliamentary motion asking for a meeting.
Mr Brake said: “I urge the Prime Minister to schedule a meeting with the Dalai Lama.
“His Holiness brings an important message about encouraging dialogue between the Chinese and Tibetan governments over the Tibet issue.
“His Holiness’s emphasis on non-violence could have a profound influence on how Blair deals with the war on terrorism.”
