Itanagar, December 16 – There has been some change in the Chinese attitude towards Tibet as the Chinese authorites have spoken to his representatives directly, said Tibetan spirtual leader Dalai Lama during a discourse at the State Banquet Hall here this evening.
”However, the Tibet issue was a complicated one and immediate result cannot be expected,” said the septuagenarain supreme leader of the Mahayana sect, hoping that ”some solution will come out in near future”. ”It is too early to say,” he added.
Responding to a question, the Buddhist leader said following the change in leaderhship, China was fast changing towards a market economy to give itself a boost.
Some of the Buddhist intellectuals have also been showing keen interest in Tibet unlike the situation earlier, he added.
The Chinese relationship with foreign countries was now developing owing to change in their Marxist leadership, he said adding that ”in the Communist country changes are coming from the masses and today’s China has changed much from what it was 20 to 30 years ago”.
Regarding the future of the Dalai Lama institution, he said it has been passed on for about 400 years and after his death the Tibetan people will decide whether the institution will remain or not.
In the morning Dalai Lama inaugurated a ‘thanka’ section at the State Jawaharlal Nehru Museum. He also visited Theraveda Buddhist temple here and delivered a discouse.
He would leave the capital tomorrow.
