TENZIN DEKI, Miss Tibet Pageant-2002 runner-up, will represent Tibet in the Miss Tourism World-2003 to be held in Valencia, Venezuela in Latin America this month. She is one of the 59 contestants who will participate in the pageant, which will conclude on December 20, said Lobsang Wangyal, Director of Miss Tibet beauty pageant.

Tenzin Deki is studying metallurgical engineering at University of Mines, Denver, Colorado. “Miss Tibet is another way of saying ‘Free Tibet’. Majority of the countries are sending their beauty queens to this pageant, where they will display the cultural heritage of their country. For us, this will be a platform to highlight the Tibet issue,” said Wangyal, the spirit behind Miss Tibet contest.

Wangyal said Tsering Kyi, who won the Miss Tibet 2003 title was supposed to participate in the Miss Tourism World Beauty pageant. However, in the absence of travel documents, Tsering Kyi would not be able to represent Tibet, he informed.

After the starting of Miss Tibet (www.misstibet.com) contest, this will be the third appearance of Tibetan beauty in an international pageant.

Earlier, Miss Tibet 2002, Dolma Tsering had participated in the Miss Tourism Intercontinental held in Malaysia where she won the Miss Goodwill title and later again participated in the Queen of Tourism pageant in Mexico.
