2nd drawing competition of school children on compassion

For the 2nd year in succession India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO) today organized a Drawing Competition of Indian and Tibetan students on the theme “Compassion: An Antidote to Violence” at Delhi Police Public School, Safdarjung Enclave in New Delhi from 9 am to 12 noon.

The event started with an opening function, where Mrs. Poonam Mathur, Social Worker and TV Artist, Mrs. Ruchi Seth and Mr. Tashi Wangdi Representative of H.H. the Dalai Lama, New Delhi presided over and spoke for the day. The children of Tibetan Day School, Samyeling, New Aruna Nagar, performed Tibetan cultural dance.

The idea behind the Competition is to disseminate the message of His Holiness the Dalai Lamas vision for a compassionate and a peaceful world. This drawing competition is an exercise to sensitize School Students that non-violence is the only means of peaceful co-existence. The Event has a Category for Special children to make them feel at par with other Children.

Some of the prominent schools participated are-Kendriya Vidyalaya- Rohini Sec-III; Masjid Moth, Pragati Vihar J.D. Tytler; Delhi Public School; East of Kailash, R. K.Puram, Modern School – RS Junior, Pathways-Sona, Gurgaon; Naval Public School-Chanakyapuri. Special Schools; Samadhan, Berrywood. In total 360 students from 30 different schools took part in this competition.

The competition was of free entry, drawing sheets was also provided free of cost along with that free Tibetan gifts were also distributed to the entire participants. Winner of the competition will receive a Prize from H.H. the Dalai Lama on January 3, 2004 at Talkatora Stadium.
