Bhutan, December 3 – A concert at the royal academy of performing arts (RAPA) featured a Tibetan musician and singer from Switzerland, Loten Namling. The concert received a house full attendance from both Bhutanese as well as Tibetans living here. Renowned Bhutanese musicians and singers participated in it, thus fulfilling it as a Bhutanese -Tibetan cultural exchange. Drashoe Pema, the judge of Thimpu court was the chief guest. Also present were other Drashoes and important members of the royal government of Bhutan. The Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) covered the event and will broadcast it soon on the national television.
Purely traditional and classical event, the concert had Bhutanese classical and traditional songs and nangma toeshes by Loten Namling . Many elderly Tibetans expressed their appreciation and recalled their memories of Tibet
To add to the glittering evening of traditional music of two Himalayan countries, Lopon Dopoe, the 74-year-old Bhutanese musician, who is so far the only gold medalist in Bhutan for his achievement in preserving the age old Bhutanese traditional music. He is regarded as the only living icon of Bhutan’s performing tradition. Loten had the opportunity to interact closely with Lopon on the traditions of Tibet and Bhutan.
Loten is currently in Bhutan as a part of his one-year musical journey through India Nepal and Bhutan. “It has so far been very successful as I shared with Tibet’s younger generation about the importance to preserve the age old tradition, that is the mission of my journey.”
He also had a concert in Bumthang organised by the Bumthang district. The governor of Bumthang himself attended as the chief guest.
