Dharamsala , December 1 – The National Democratic Party of Tibet has appealed to the Chinese authorities to commute the death sentence given to Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, a renowned Buddhist leader of Tibet. Rinpoche was sentenced to death on December 2, 2002 with two years reprieve.
In a statement issued here today, the party president, Acharya Yeshi Phunstok, said the religious leader had been falsely implicated on the charges of bombing and separatism. He said the fault of Rinpoche was that he had established monasteries without the permission of the Chinese authorities.
He also appealed to the followers of Rinpoche and international leaders to exert pressure on China to release him. The party is also organising a demonstration tomorrow in protest against the sentence at the main bus stand at McLeodganj.
