Dharamshala, November 18 – Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has said to preserve the degenerating human, moral and cultural values in society, spiritual education must be imparted in schools along with the modern system of education.
He said culturally India was richer and far more deep-rooted than other countries, but regretted that,”we are not understanding and following our own education system in the right perspective and have begun to ignore our values.” Recalling his meeting with Indira Gandhi, the Dalai Lama said he had talked about the rich Indian cultural values and the country’s education system and its absolutely British orientation.
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education Chairman B R Rahi had sought an audience with the Dalai Lama who appreciated the steps being initiated by the board to revitalise the education system in the state particularly its effort to include ‘Bhoti’ language in the board’s curriculum.
Assuring Mr Rahi that he would extend all support for cultural exchange programmes between school children and Tibetan Children Village (TCVs), he also urged the board to develop separate programmes for the tribal people residing in the districts of Lahul and Spiti and Kinnaur.
