The Chinese embassy in Spain has accused Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, of indulging in secessionist activities.

The Dalai Lama is on a two-day private visit to Spain, during which he will have no contacts with the government.

The spiritual leader, who was invited to Spain by two private organisations, has held two conferences covering cultural and political issues, including Tibet.

However, a Chinese embassy official has accused him of using the pretext of his status as a religious leader to enter the political arena.

No Spanish official is meeting with the Dalai Lama during his visit to avoid a potential confrontation with China over the status of Tibet.
