The China Export and Import Bank (Eximbank) and the Construction Bureau of Qamdo Prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region signed an agreement on Friday permitting the use of a German grant to support environmental protection projects in Qamdo.

The 6.1355 million euro grant transferred by the Eximbank to Qamdo on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Finance will be used to build a waste water treatment plant and supporting facilities in Qamdo Town, so as to dispose of waste water and prevent potential water pollution in the headstream of the Lancang River.

Located in the eastern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region at the point of convergence of three rivers with the Lancang River, Qamdo is rich in animal and plant resources and is also a strategic communications and transportation center.

The Eximbank has thus far transferred government loans or grants from 17 countries and two financial institutions to support the country’s building of transportation, power, environmental protection, urban infrastructure and other projects.
