On the occasion of World Health Day, the Department of Health of the Central Tibetan Administration would like to extend our warm greetings to all those dedicated to promoting good health throughout the globe.

Taking the opportunity of this occasion, we call for your special attention to the need for a healthy environment so that our children can grow in a healthy atmosphere. The Department of Health pledges its strongest support to your efforts towards this direction.

For children to grow in sound health, it is of paramount importance that the home, school and the community provide them a hygienic environment. It is a matter of profound concern that unhealthy environment claims the lives of at least 50,000 children every year. All children should have the right to clean home, school and community for their full growth and development.

A clean environment can save children from many diseases, thus paving the way for their maximum physical and mental development. As the seed of a nation, healthy children will be able to contribute immensely to the future wellbeing of their community. Therefore , it is essential that we take care of the child’s health right from the time of its conception. In this context, it is essential that Tibetans and non-Tibetans pay special attention to the pre-natal health care system of the traditional holistic science.

The Kashag and the Department of Health have issued special instruction to the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute and all its branch clinics in the various Tibetan settlements to initiate traditional Tibetan medical pre-natal health care programs in the entire Tibetan community. We call upon all concerned to join hands to make this venture a success.
