Hyderabad Mourns Tibetan’s Execution

Hyderabad, 9 February – Organized by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Hyderabad, and joined by Vijayawada RTYC, Friends OF Tibet Hyderabad, Friends oF Tibet Baroda, Mr. G. Venkateshwar Rao, ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), and individuals from Tibetan Refugee Welfare Association, a 24 hour hunger strike was carried out in protest of the execution of Lobsang Dhondup, one of the two Tibetans sentenced to death earlier in December in a bombing case in Kandze, TAP.

Around 80 people took part in this protest. Peace March and hunger-strike began from Public Garden(Koti)after singing the Tibetan and Indian national anthems. Local newspapers and television covered the event. Statements of TYC, TWA, and friends of Tibet issued in condemnation of the execution of the 28 year old Tibetan were distributed at the gathering to formally start the protest. The March started at 9:30am from Koti and passed through city’s important areas like, Abids, Basheerbagh, Himayat Nagar, RTC Cross Road and ended at the Indira-park. Distribution of pamphlets was carried out on the way to Indira-park.

In the evening, a candle light vigil was organised followed by One minute silence to mourn the sacrifice of Lobsang Dhondup, Prayer offerings, Rangzen songs in English, Hindi and Tibetan were sung to express solidarity of all the Tibetans to the family and relatives of the deceased.
